The mid or mid length is an evolution of the 80’s “fun shape,” blending the superior paddling-speed and wave-catching ability of longboards with modern performance design elements to make a board that’s fast and easy to surf: capable of carving, tube riding, and hitting the lip.

Most modern mid length surfboards use a 2 + 1 fin configuration: a taller single fin in the middle and two smaller side fins, but are also designed as single fins, twins, thrusters, and quads. Mid lengths can look like anything from a stretched-out fish, to a bloated shortboard, to a slimmed-down longboard.
