Also referred to as high-performance (HP) boards, this type of board is intended for the type of surfing seen on the World Championship Tour, and are almost always thrusters (three-fins). HP shortboards are optimized for responsiveness, maneuverability, and acceleration, allowing surfers to make critical take-offs, either late or under the lip, stay longer and get deeper in the barrel, and perform faster and more vertical turns in the steepest parts of the wave. Thanks to their acceleration and responsiveness, HP boards are the best for doing airs as well.
